The Carr Center is an incubator for black artists which has chosen Rick Robinson to become a RESIDENT COMPOSER!
The center is located in downtown Detroit overlooking Harmonie Park.
This full-length program will feature premieres for their debut CD, transcriptions of Beethoven, Bach and Ellington, and the comic Introduction  
to his grand opus MIGHTY LOVE Sextet for Strings.
Joining Robinson are these PRINCIPAL DSO PLAYERS:
Geoff Applegate, Kim Kennedy, Jim VanValkenburg, Caroline Coade and superstar cellist Robert deMaine who will be featured in a beautiful Adagio by J. S. Bach's. Michigan Opera Theater Oboist Sally Pituch will premiere the Gigue Rondo.
Proceeds will fund the commercial RECORDING to be released in early 2011. Checks for tickets and tax-deductible contributions must be made out to ARTS LEAGUE OF MICHIGAN.

This program features Glinka's Russlan and Ludmilla Overture, Beethoven's Pathetique Piano Sonata, Robinson's adventurous Gitcha Groove On and the WORLD premiere of his pastoral homage to Mahler, the Idyll for Solo English Horn featuring Michigan Opera Theater oboist Sally Pituch. Superstar cellist Robert deMaine will perform Bach's famous Adagio from Toccata BWV 564! Three movements from Robinson's 2007 masterpiece SEXTET FOR STRINGS in A-Major entitled MIGHTY LOVE will open the 2nd half. This delightfully fresh work is a modern love story for strings told in the grand romantic style with some modern twists. Concluding the program will be Georges Enesco's juggernaut the Romanian Rhapsody No. 1.

Mr. CutTime will lead this evening of readings with a dozen string, wind and piano players sight-reading classical quartet standards and crossover works. It should be a hot steamy time as hundreds of onlookers cram standing room only at the sound of a symphony in a coffeehouse! Expect to hear Beethoven's Fur Elise, Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik and Bach's Orchestral Suite No. 3 as well as Robinson's dramatic Elegy.

CutTime String Quartet will lead a celebration of the ORIGINAL classical rebel Ludwig van Beethoven with Top 40 from the lively symphonic playlist. Brahms Hungarian Dance No. 5, Beethoven 5th Symphony, Mozart 25 and 40, Robinson City of Trees and Pork 'n Beans, spirituals, so much more and many surprises! Playing bassist Rick Robinson, CTSQ this night will include John McLauglin Williams.
Following them is Amici Strings playing Beethoven Op. 18 Surprise plus Broadway, opera and rock favorites.
Flutist Dennis Carter brings a woodwind trio while pianist Doug Scott interludes us with famous sonatas.
Solo guest stars include clarinetist Brian Bowman with Mozart and Brahms! While a surprise violinist charms us with HER Beethoven surprise!

Beethoven actually enjoys 2 birthdays! He was baptized on the 17th but it is speculated that he may have been BORN on the 16th. Without records in 1770 it is impossible to know. But for the person who so revolutionized classical music for the next 100 years, he DESERVES two birthday parties!
Join us for a conclusion of the Classical Revolution Detroit Kickoff Week with this 2nd open classical jam session at coffeehouse yet to be named! He will speak about the controversy of choosing our modes of expression in a highly individualized society even when those choices go against the culture of our native group.

Performing with him will be DSO violinists Hai-Xin Wu, Adam Stepniewski and violist Hang Su.

CutTime Players will perform the 1st half of a Black History Month program as a fundraiser for the striking Musicians of Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Program will include a new arrangement of the Scherzo from Dvorak's American Quartet and the music of black composers. Members of the Brazeal Dennard Chorale will sing 3 selections to be announced from the stage. The 2nd half will feature CutTime Simfonica performing powerful new music by director Rick Robinson, including City of Trees, Elegy, Pork 'N Beans and Gigue Rondo featuring Principal Oboist Donald Baker.

No cover... but suggested donations $5-20 for Charith.  No piano, but we'll have an oboe and possibly a flutist or two... but mainly strings!
