Peter and the Wolf
Peter and the Wolf by Sergei Prokofiev is THE best-known classical music story to both children and adults. CutTime Players' arrangement features our flutist in a prominent role; rather than just taking the theme of the bird, the flutist here plays EACH character’s theme by the end.

The story is that of the boy Peter, who one day opens the gate, against his grandfather's wishes, and walks into the big, green meadow. He's joined by a little bird and by a duck who wants to swim in the little pond there. The bird and the duck argue about who is a bird or not, while a stealthy cat creeps up on the bird. "Look out!", cries Peter and the bird flutters up into a big tree. Grandfather comes out and brings Peter back inside the gate, warning of wolves coming out of the forest.

No sooner do they leave the meadow however than an enormous wolf DOES come out into the meadow. Everyone but Grandpa sees him. The cat climbs the tree OK but the duck gets so excited, she jumps OUT of the pond! The duck runs faster and faster but can't escape the wolf! Catching her and swallowing her whole, the wolf turns his greedy eyes on both the bird AND the cat!

Meanwhile Peter hatches a plan. He gets some rope and climbs out onto the same tree since it happened to reach over the wall. He enlists the bird to distract the wolf long enough to lower a rope around his tail. The other end being tied to the tree, the wolf is trapped! Hunters tracking the wolf are amazed and Peter talks them into taking him to the zoo. Finally we learn that the duck is STILL alive in the wolf's stomach and that we can enjoy her beautiful song once more.
